New Haven Wedding: Tanner + Robert | Britt Hill Photo

These photos are from Tanner + Robert’s backyard tented New Haven wedding in Connecticut. Their wedding was a perfect example of how meaningful a day can feel without being overcomplicated.

These two chose a relaxed and simple approach. They got ready separately, ending with Tanner and her friends walking through the streets of Wooster Square New Haven singing and giggling the lyrics to “Chapel of Love”, their laughter and giddy vocals bouncing between the cute Wooster Square apartments as neighbors smiled, waved, and offered congratulations. It was the kind of spontaneous playfulness that happens when you keep a wedding day focused on enjoying it. It is what makes documentary-style wedding photography so special – it feels real because it was real.

After a heartfelt ceremony at a nearby church, everyone gathered on the front steps of the Wooster Square church — hugging, celebrating and congratulating the newlyweds, extended family and friends old and new reuniting and greeting each other in the sun. We wandered across the street to Wooster Square Park for relaxed portraits beneath the cherry trees, where even in midsummer the shade offered a quiet pause in the day as guests drove to reception.

To end it all, Tanner and Robert drove off to their backyard tent wedding in a vintage MG, cans trailing behind them as their family cheered — a timeless, joyful exit.

New Haven offers such a unique setting for weddings in Connecticut. You could have it at a church, head to one of the many classic pizza joints and then celebrate somewhere intimate. It has a vibrant, city-like energy — similar to New York City but more intimate and approachable. Whether you’re envisioning a traditional church ceremony, a park elopement, or a laid-back celebration at your favorite local restaurant, this area gives you the freedom to create a wedding day that truly reflects who you are.

As a Connecticut wedding photographer, these are the moments I focus on – the in-between, unscripted memories that make your day feel like yours. If you are planning a New Haven wedding or any wedding in Connecticut and you want your photos to captured naturally with attention to emotions and storytelling hit. me. up!

If you are having a Connecticut wedding and want it to feel like your life — not a production of it — this is the kind of approach that leaves room for real moments to happen. Real moments that feel like you xoxo
